The author argues that the development of cognitive linguistic analysis of the speech genre essay helps determine variation of the model of the speech genre. Based on her research, the author differentiates categories such as the type of intellectual space, concept, referent interdependency, modal subject and the formal indicators. The resultant scheme reflects sustained variation of the essay implementation in
the Russian culture of the 20th–21st centuries.
