The article is devoted to the analysis of female portraits in “The Tale of Genji”, a novel
by Murasaki Shikibu. The author makes a comparison between the portraits of different
heroines and makes a conclusion about the connection between these characteristics and the writer’s conception. The article also shows the reasons for the writer’s interest in
human personality, as this distinguishes her work from the rest of novels of early middleages Japan.
