The reconstruction of higher musical education in Leningrad conservatory in the 1920s required reviewing of all curricula and programmes and creation of new courses. It happened in the context of the opposition of two musical unions: the Russian Association of Proletarian Musicians and Association of Contemporary Music, and that opposition infl uenced the story of the new courses. The article involves archive materials related to one of the learning courses developed by the outstanding educator and musician Pyotr Ryazanov (1899–1942), who was one of the pioneers of the reformation of education in composing.
