The article is devoted to social networks as autonomous systems generating art content, whose semantic component consists in digitised and often idealised self-presentation of users, and the formal side is formed on the basis of specific patterns and algorithms. The author analyses the basic principles of creating and functioning of user accounts, drawing parallels with the creative techniques of avant-garde and postmodernism (construction principle, principle of collage, amateurism, replicating, etc.), and explores characteristics and properties of the semantic field of social networks, coming to the idea of their belonging to the category of simulacra.
Key words: generative art, social networks, simulacrum, Internet, design principle,
virtual personality.
