The article belongs to the field of Political Media Linguistics and is devoted to detection
of the linguistic means of forming political stereotypes in the electronic media. A series
of articles on the New York Times website covering the beginning of the Ukrainian
crisis (November, 2013) is studied. Lexis and some means of language used for creating stereotyped ideas about Russia among The New York Times audience are described.
