The importance of structural and functional analysis in modern sociology is justified in the
paper. The author makes an attempt to analyse the innovative activity of modern Russian
industrial enterprises in terms of the structural and functional approach. The sociological
research is conducted as part of the project “Vocational Training of Personnel as a Factor
of Innovative Activity of an Industrial Enterprise”, which is carried out with support of
the Russian Humanitarian Scientific Fund (RHSF 12-33-01401 project).
