The article considers the issue of the ancient biy’s court in Kazakh traditional society,
which was covered in the works of Russian pre-revolutionary researches of the 19th
century. According to the conducted analysis, the author concludes that historiography
has two exact antipodes of the opinion upon this issue: the first one considers moral
qualities of biys as a basis for the court organisation; the second one puts forward force, power and wealth of the tribal community.
