The article is devoted to the historical aspect of self-identification of an individual and
mass subject. Special attention is paid to contradictory self-identification of a modern
person, where a creative arbitrary action based on the denial of cultural norms is a
manifestation of personal uniqueness, which in its turn is a norm of behaviour of an
individual and mass subject in the sphere of art.
