The history of forming and development of students’ research activity in natural
science is considered in the paper. Works of educationalists of the 18th – early 20th
centuries are analysed concerning the expediency of organising the research activity
of children studying natural science. The author of the paper determines the main
steps and trends in the methodology of organising and conducting of educational
research in order to improve students’ knowledge quality, to form their scientific
outlook, theoretical and practical abilities and skills and to develop the interest in
learning the world.
