The article is dedicated to the problem of lexical repetitions in the story “The Captain’s
Daughter” by A. S. Pushkin and their translation into English. Unfortunately, translators
do not pay enough attention to this means of individualisation of literature characters’
speech. So, lexical repetitions become a translation problem. In case of their wrong
comprehension the interpreter corrupts the original story.
