The article is a study of arbor mundi as a mythological and poetic image in the Western European literary context. A tree, along with a rose and a boat, is one of the elements of the universal triad of mythical and poetic images. The World Tree serves as a key artistic symbol in numerous works of the Western European art: visual arts, music, literature and fi lm.
