The article is devoted to the cause of misperception of the Far Eastern symbols at the
turn of the 20th century. The author considers the history of the occurrence of data
errors and the role of P.P. Winkler in this process. In the context of the overall problem,
particular attention is paid to adopting the coat of arms of the Primorye region in 1878
as an emblem of Khabarovsk city and the causes for insuffient popularity of the only
legitimate coat of arms of 1912.
