The results of the research on typological peculiarities of the development of cultural
relations between Russia and Byzantium in the 14th – fist half of the 15th centuries are
summarised in the paper. Thse peculiarities are connected with the penetration and
development of hesychasm in Russia and its role in preserving the ethnocultural integrity during the formation of the politically independent Moscow state. The paper reveals the cultural and historical role of the Trinity monastery as an outpost of the RussianByzantine interaction.
