In the 20th century European culture updates the concepts of cultural values and rules of
conduct. In cultural studies, this process results in a thorough revision of many cultural
processes. One of the most important themes is identifiation of the subject and cognitive
mechanisms in modern culture. The article provides an analysis of one of the theories of
sense and meaning in terms of European photography.
