The article describes the evolution of facade majolica from coloured tiles to ceramic
paintings in the cult buildings of Petersburg, built in the Russian, neo-Russian and Art
Nouveau styles at the turn of the 20th century. Saving the traditionally Russian traits,
majolica in Petersburg’s church architecture of this period becomes relevant for the new
ideas of Art Nouveau and its directions, due to its artistic and utilitarian internals. Thre
is a diffilt stylistic picture in this connection. The changes in composition, colour,
technical making of majolica artworks and their location in the overall building structure
are studied in this work.
