Thу article is aimed to check the effctiveness of the use of speech patterns as an
instrument of the inflence on the recipient as exemplifid in the novel “Thnk you for
smoking” by K. Buckley. Thу authors also describe the way to control “speech fraud” by
means of critical discourse modelling (CDM). Ths direction explores the discourse that
allows us to analyse speech techniques and tactics operating in speeches of politicians,
campaign speeches in particular, as well as in fition.
