The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept галантность (galantnost, “gallantry”) in the modern Russian language and the words галантный (galantny, “gallant”), галантно (galantno, “gallantly”), галантность (galantnost, “gallantry”), which are parts of its semantic field. The results of the conducted research demonstrate the difference between gallantry and politeness as characteristics of human behaviour through identifying their mutual and distinctive components of meaning. The analysis of the lexical items significantly elaborates the explanations given in contemporary Russian dictionaries.
