The authors of the paper study the evolution of the ideas about social responsibility in the European cultural tradition and analyse thoroughly the conception of social responsibility in the Renaissance. The deepening of understanding of social responsibility is shown as a transition from its certain empirical manifestations – duties, to exploration of the universal human essence.
