Radical Fashion in the Looking Glass of Fashion Reviews

The article focuses on how “radical fashion” has been reviewed by art critics (Suzi Menkes, Tamsin Blanchard, Cathy Horyn), who have a deeper insight of the subject than the general public. It is argued that the main task of the fashion designers, who create “radical clothes”, is rather to provoke the public than just attract attention. “Radical clothes” designers seek to change common perception and establish conditions for the acceptance of change by the public at large. These are precisely the
principles, which led Rei Kawakubo, Alexander McQueen, Azzedine Alaïa, Hussein Chalayan to their broad recognition.
