Abstract. The article considers an example of using the musical ecphrasis principle in
teacher’s work on the “programme” piano cycle of modern Chinese composer Zhang
Shuwen in Listening to Music class at children’s music schools. A special approach to the
disclosure of the creative and cognitive way of a child’s perception of an unfamiliar musical text is noted. The author proposes a variant of conducting classes, where “programme” instrumental compositions become samples of musical and didactic material, in which the national feature of the music style is clearly revealed. Analysing the “programme” piano cycle “Chinese Zodiac”, the author of the paper shows a way of presenting the material with the use of creative tasks that come in touch with children audience’s interest.
