The article discusses the ways of forming discourse-translation skills of undergraduate
students majoring in Chinese linguistics. The full-fledged formation of these skills is
associated with both intralinguistic knowledge of the language and knowledge of the
Chinese society, culture, traditions, axiological norms, precedent texts, speech etiquette,
etc., used in translation activities. The authors propose a typology of discourse-translation skills based on the type of cognitive activity used at a particular stage of the translation process. Each group of skills is divided into subgroups, which are described in detail. Within the framework of their description, the authors suggest types of tasks which are most effective in the formation of the corresponding skills.
