The subject of this article is the analysis of the hierarchical nature of the relations that
develop between a teacher and a student within the framework of the modern education
system. The article aims to identify the subordinative principle underlying pedagogical
interaction and contributing to the legitimisation of pedagogical authority. This task is
realised by analysing the mechanisms of social control that are characteristic of school
as a special kind of “total institutions”.
