The paper considers the piano suite “Red Detachment of Women” by the famous Chinese composer Du Mingxin, created on the basis of the “exemplary” dance drama of the same title. The composer selected seven parts for the suite and based his musical language on the scales, melodies, and rhythms of the ethnic national music.
Including patriotic songs, hymns, and «The Internationale» in the composition, the author uses some methods of modern Western compositional techniques.
