The article examines various aspects of the activities of youth collectives based on a
survey conducted among musicians of symphony orchestras of seven leading universities in Beijing. In particular, the article is focused on the motivation of students for orchestral performance, organisation of rehearsals, concert performances, problems of rotation of orchestra members, management of artistic teams and the repertoire aspect. University orchestra groups not only play a significant role in the artistic enrichment of campuses and in enhancing the overall culture of students. They are gradually becoming one of the symbols of educational institutions, representing their international cooperation
and reputation, increasingly acting as a key system-forming factor in the musical and
educational space of modern China.
