In the scientiśc review, in order to present current information about the psychophysiological, neurophysiological and psychiatric aspects of Internet addiction, the author analyses the research conducted on this topic in recent years. Socialisation and adaptation of any modern person occurs against the background of rapid development of technology and social networks. Virtual space has become a part of the socio-cultural space and a new territory of communication, which provides additional resources for self-realisation of a person, but also contains serious social risks that can lead to serious psychological problems and consequences. This includes excessive uncontrolled immersion in virtual space; high risk of inclusion in fraudulent and dangerous communities; rapid increase in the volume of extremist and terrorist materials. Based on the generalised data, the author considers the importance of studying the phenomenon under discussion and the prospects for further study of the topic.
Key  words:  Internet addiction, virtual space, psychiatry, psychophysiology, neuro-
physiology, cyber dependence.
