The paper highlights achievements of the prominent Russian
mezzo-soprano singer Irina Bogacheva in the genre of opera.
Special attention is paid to Bogacheva’s performing the parts
in operas of Russian composers. The emphasis is made on her
interpretation of such opera characters as the Countess in P.
Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades”, Marfa in M. Mussorgsky’s
“Khovanshchina”, Lyubasha in N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The
Tsar’s Bride”. The author focuses on the signifi cance to study
the singer’s art by Chinese vocalists.
