The article discusses fundamental issues in the field of copyright protection of designers. The fame of the author of a design work emphasises a necessary element of protection of industrial design by law, along with other objective elements in judging about the existence of “artistic value”. Designers’ projects are works with a “creative character” and “artistic value”. The main problem is that a young designer cannot protect his/her ideas and projects in the socio-economic environment. Assessment of artistic value is carried out on the basis of knowledge in the field of jurisprudence, which is so necessary for art students.
