The article deals with the inner form as a source of cultural connotation and an element of the semantic model of phraseological meaning. The author describes in detail the method of Russian phraseological units semantisation, based on the analysis of their inner form that consists of three stages: highlighting the main features of phraseological unit components, revealing its inner form, and guessing about its current meaning and situations of its use. The effectiveness of this method has been proven experimentally. Key words: inner form, semantisation, phraseological unit, cultural connotation, Russian as a foreign language.
