The work is devoted to the study of the relationship between clinical and psychological
characteristics and the level of motivation to quit smoking in patients with chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The characteristics of the emotional sphere,
attitude to health, satisfaction with quality of life, level of motivation to quit smoking
in patients with COPD were studied. The analysis of clinical data of patients’ medical
records was carried out. The clinical characteristics of the examined patients were
compared with the level of motivation to quit smoking. It was found that most patients
had a weak level of motivation to quit smoking; no marked emotional disturbances
were observed, patients were aware of their disease, but they did not always follow recommendations and a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, most of them were satisBed
with the support of their close people. As a result of the study, it was revealed that
the degree of motivation to quit smoking is interrelated with the clinical manifestations
of the disease (the manifestation of dyspnea), the level of anxiety and depression, and
the degree of patient satisfaction with their health and communication with friends and
family.
