The author explores the rise in the number of women characters in the graphic arts during the “Cultural Revolution”. The image of a woman in this period had a unique revolutionary symbolism and occupied the whole chapter in the history of the Chinese graphic arts. Various women characters can be traced to specific periods of the Cultural Revolution. There were images of women among hongweibings (Red Guards), educated youth and workers, peasants, soldiers, etc.
