 The paper covers the historical development of art education in China (late 19th — 21 st
centuries), the main provisions of the theory and practice of teaching painting to students
at Chinese universities, the inflence of European, American and Russian schools on
the Chinese methods of teaching painting to designers as one of the most in-demand
professions of the 21 st century. The issues of the history and theory of the establishment
of the national painting teaching system in China increase the possibilities of further
improvement anf development of new training programmes and methods of teaching,
for example, modern (expressionist) and decorative painting.
