The paper analyses the changes in methodological approaches to teaching specialised drawing from the times when artistic and industrial education was first introduced to Russia up to the present day. Using the comparative method, the author analyses the evolution of the main goals in vocational education of applied artists in connection with the degree of universalisation in drawing teaching methods. The author discusses the methodological importance of specialised drawing in teaching design students due to the development of information technologies.
