Yang Xiinzi as a Representative of the Jin Telin Vocal and Performing School: Adapting the Principles of Bel Canto for the National Repertoire

Abstract. The article highlights the work of the Chinese singer Yang Xiinzi, who gained
popularity as a performer of mainly national vocal repertoire. The article examines the
creative path of the singer, especially noting the successive relation of her performing
principles with the school of Jin Telin, an outstanding teacher who produced a whole galaxy
of famous vocalists playing iconic roles in the panorama of modern vocal culture in China.
Special attention is paid in the article to the adaptation of the principles of bel canto for the
performance of the national Chinese repertoire, which, using the example of Yang Xiinzi’s
work, seems relevant and promising both professionally and in terms of voice hygiene.
