Abstract. The article provides an analysis of the remarkable piano suite by the Saint Petersburg composer S. Banevich. The creative achievements of Banevich in the fi eld of creating music for children and youth are briefl y characterised. It is noted that in the children’s piano repertoire there are relatively few works devoted to Pushkin’s fairy tales. The author of the paper reveals the signifi cance of the “Pushkin Tales” suite for expanding the artistic horizons of students and enriching their programmes. The emphasis is on the analysis of Banevich’s system of performing instructions, as well as on the consideration of each of the suite’s pieces from the programmatic, artistic and methodological positions.
