Abstract. The article reveals the role and advantages of a foreign language conversation club as an extracurricular form of educational activity and as a way to form students’ self-identity at a linguistics university. The authors examine the concept of self-identity and its components, as well as their implementation using the case of French-language films. The conclusion is made about the advantages of this method of educational activity, which allows students to determine their public position, join a certain cognitive, cultural, psychological and social (including professional) community.
