THE SPECIFICITY OF THE BYZANTINE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM: SECULAR AND SPIRITUAL ASPECTS

 The article deals with problem of the socio-cultural and philosophical foundations of the
Byzantine system of education. The little-known materials on the history of the Constantinople University are presented and commented in the article. Special attention is paid to the sources from which the Byzantine educational tradition developed. It is stressed that from the substantive point of view the Byzantine education represented a unity of mysticism, scholasticism, Neoplatonism, rationalism, Aristotelian culture of definitions and religious cult.
