 Tatyana Tolstaya is one of the brightest representatives of contemporary Russian prose. The article is a literary analysis of her 1987 short-story “Th Fakir”. It focuses on the special artistic role that fairy-tale and myth motives play in her artistic worldview and sheds light on various themes and devices (such as the narrative structure and poetic speech) that Tolstaya employs to achieve this effct. The article also addresses the ideological-esthetic, philosophical, conceptual and poetic aspects that occur throughout Tolstaya’s works.
