The formation of the esthetics of symbolism on the Polish scene is considered in the article through the example of the work of the Krakow City Thatre. Th article also shows the preconditions for emergence of the scenic symbolism phenomenon in Poland at the end of the 19th century and its interrelation with the general tendencies of the development of Polish art. Th scenographic reform of Stanisław Wyspiański and the director’s work of Tadeusz Pawlikowski are presented as key moments that made it possible to create a symbolist performance on the Polish scene as an esthetically cohesive work of art.
