Simultaneously with the directorial theatre establishment in France at the turn of the
20th century, one could observe a signifiant layer of theatre culture. Th theatre critic
A. Aderer determined this parallel theatre process as “le théâtre à côté” (theatre on the
sideline). Ths notion is viewed in the paper as new theatre forms and genres that appeared during amateur experiments and private initiatives and became a reflction of its age.
