The article is devoted to revealing the continuity of literary pastorale, a musical and
theatrical genre of Italian madrigal comedy of the 16th–17th centuries. Th following
key qualities of the pastorale genre are demonstrated on the material of the play “I Fidi
Amanti” (1600) by Gasparo Torelli: puzzles, parody, pranks, presence of shepherds arguing and competing in singing, ostensibility of provisions, unpredictability of plot twists, and typical antitheses-oppositions (city – countryside, crowd – solitude, excitement – quietness). Th individual and specifi refraction of the musical theater genre in this play is shown.
