The paper is devoted to the attempt to describe the questions of socio-cultural and
ethnolinguistic development of the cities in the south-east region of the Republic of
Bashkortostan. Th author presents the statistical data, including the Russian Census of
2010, illustrating the relationship of the city population dynamics and the expansion of
the spheres of active bilingualism, its dependence on the combination of ethnographic,
socio-economic, cultural and other factors.
