 The paper covers the specifi c work method of the Expressionist actor Werner Krauss in
German theatre and cinema in the fi rst third of the 20 th century. The author reveals the
difference in the nature of theatre and cinema and, accordingly, various tools of an actor
for working on stage or on screen. The author analyses the way of creating the “scream”
acting image and new artistic techniques resulting from introducing cinema features to
stage and theatre features to screen.
