The end of the 16th century and beginning of the 17th century was an important stage in
the development of Spanish baroque polychrome wooden sculpture. It was the time of
transition to new techniques (painting of sculpture by professional painters) and the new
way of understanding of polychrome wood. The article is devoted to the central fi gure of
Andalusian sculpture of that time — Pablo de Rojas.
