The paper addresses the linguistic representation of the emotive situation “Loss” in
Anglo-Saxon lyrical poetry based on the material of heroic elegies “The Wanderer” and
“The Wife’s Lament”. The emotive situation in question is treated as an emotive frame
including as the main slots the subject and the object of loss, circumstances of loss and the subject’s emotions caused by the loss. The paper describes and compares the ways these slots are represented in both poems.
