THE “SLAVONIC RENAISSANCE” AND RUSSIAN PAINTING OF THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY

I. V. Glazov
Price: 50 руб.
The process of “nationalisation of the masses” in the 19th-century Europe resulted in a
search for national identity in art and culture throughout the 19th century. This search is
realised through an appeal to antiquity, which acts as a unifying principle of the European civilisation. The “Slavonic Renaissance” of antiquity is a complex of social, political and cultural ideas, which preconditioned the “Silver Age” phenomenon. The author of the article attempts to trace the infl uence of the Slavic Renaissance idea on the national art formation in the early 20th century.
Key words: antiquity, tradition, Russian art, Neoclassicism, Russian art of the 20th
century.
