Cinematography, being a peculiar mirror of what is happening in society, responds to
political and sociocultural changes. The wide usage of the visual metaphor involving
the image of an “exceptional person” became one of the artistic methods in films of the
second half of the 20th century. This poorly studied phenomenon is examined in the
paper in the context of political, social and aesthetic realities of the time.
Key words: cinema, exceptional person, screen image, cinema critic, metaphor, society.
