The article is devoted to the problem of phraseological units that represent surprise.
The article is based on the interviews of Dean Koontz, John Guare, Allie Proulx, Barry
Hannah, Tom Araya, Joanne Rowling and Popa Chubby. The author of the article gives
definitions of the terms “phraseological unit” and “idiom”, a psychological classification
of emotions and analyses phraseological units that nominate the emotive state of surprise in British and American interviews.
