Abstract. The article is devoted to the components of a holistic analysis aimed at revealing the dialectics of thematic processes of the classical sonata form. Recognising the fact that in educational practice the sonata form is studied mainly on the basis of the creative heritage of L. van Beethoven, the article provides examples of pre-Beethoven sonata dramaturgy, indicating the diversity of historical types of sonata thinking. Particular attention is paid to the themes in the development sections, both in the development episodes themselves, and in the exposition and recapitulation parts of this compositional structure. The author aims to supplement the didactic material of textbooks and teaching aids recommended for students of colleges and music universities with the development of some fundamental ideas embedded in the theory of sonata form by the classics of Russian musical science B. Asafyev, Yu. Tyulin and C. Kushnarev.
