Abstract. The article shows how the religious consciousness of Russian subjects, under the influence of the reforms of Peter I, began to transform into patriotic consciousness. The reasons for the emergence of state patriotism are analysed. It is shown that patriotism is gradually becoming an independent value in the public consciousness, acquiring the meaning of devotion and service to the state for the common good.
