Abstract. The article is devoted to minor British immigrants in Canada. The goal is to show the change in the attitude of the residents of the host country towards “foreign” children at the end of the 19th century, to demonstrate manifestations of xenophobia against young British, to explain the reasons for the negative perception of immigrants by Canadians. The author comes to the conclusion that the opposition to migration was caused by the economic crisis of the 1890s, the ill-conceived migration policy and legislation of both countries, and the lack of proper control over minors abroad. The media played a big role in whipping up the negative attitude towards British migrant children.
